Product Type
Performance & training support web app
Status
Live MVP, expanding feature set
A focused mobile app training companion designed to help athletes and fitness-minded users structure effort, maintain discipline, and stay mentally present during workouts.
The Problem
Many people struggle to maintain structure and intensity in solo training. Without a coach or cornerman present, workouts lose clarity, pacing, and psychological support. Existing fitness apps often overwhelm users with data or programs, rather than helping them stay focused in the moment.
Insight & Hypothesis
I believed that a simple, voice-driven training companion could replicate the psychological presence of a cornerman—providing structure, pacing, and encouragement without distraction. The hypothesis was that clarity and cadence would matter more than personalization or metrics early on.
Core belief: Training consistency improves when structure and psychological support are present—even in minimal form.
Goals and Non-Goals
Goals
- Provide clear structure for time-boxed workouts
- Reinforce discipline and presence during training
- Minimize cognitive load and setup friction
- Feel supportive without being intrusive
Non Functional Goals
- Complex fitness tracking or analytics
- Social features or competition
- Program marketplaces or long onboarding flows
- Replacing professional coaching
My Role & Ownership
I conceived the product, defined the core interaction model, scoped the MVP, and led design and implementation. I made deliberate decisions around simplicity, voice tone, and feature restraint to keep the experience focused on execution rather than configuration.
Solution Overview
- Lightweight mobile app focused on timed training rounds
- Voice cues to maintain pacing and mental engagement
- Minimal setup to encourage repeat use
- Designed to be used during activity, not before or after
Key Tradeoffs & Constraints
I intentionally avoided advanced tracking, social mechanics, and program complexity in favor of speed, clarity, and reliability. The product prioritizes showing up and doing the work over optimizing or comparing performance.
Outcomes & Future
- Live deployment with early adopter usage
- Repeat sessions indicating habit formation potential
- Clear validation that simplicity increases follow-through
- A roadmap focused on progressive enhancement rather than feature expansion
What I’m Doing Next
Next steps include refining voice presence, expanding workout templates, and selectively integrating tracking where it supports—not distracts from—execution. Longer-term, I’d explore platform integrations while preserving the product’s simplicity.
